About the Project

The Mpumalanga Heritage Centre is a joint project of the Mpumalanga

Peace and Development Trust, the National Department of Tourism, the eThekwini Economic Development Unit and Durban Local History Museums.

The Mpumalanga Heritage Centre is a site of memory; a reminder of an extraordinary time in the history of Mpumalanga. It tells the story of the political violence that engulfed Mpumalanga from 1983 to 1992, and how the people of this community resolved to end this conflict and make peace with one another.

There are many more stories of this place and this time to be told, but this is just the beginning of a conversation we hope will continue far into the future.
